We collabed with PCT to host this amazing event with two guest speakers: Brian Brokowski who is the general manager at Allison and Gianna Sbarbaro who is a marketing associate at USD. They discussed their experiences in marketing vs. PR vs. sales and gave some very helpful insight:
Public relations is a broad topic that includes but is not limited to reputation management, crisis communications, media relations, etc.
PR is about brand perception and sentience and good PR is proactive as well as reactive
Sales is more direct and interactive
Marketing is more broad and it’s about communicating value
Marketing is also more quantifiable compared to PR
Use of data and data analytics has helped PR evolve
Utilize on campus resources to build your portfolio and get incredible opportunities like traveling
Agencies are fast moving and you get to work on multiple clients at once
In house allows you to delve deeper into industries and clients
Different departments have to look at all from all perspectives in order to ensure a smooth and effective campaign
AI has helped revolutionize the process by streamlining tasks
Use and build your network and don’t be afraid to reach out to others for help
Important to stay relevant and know your audience, but be careful about crossing the line
Thanks so much to our two insightful speakers! We hope you will join us at our next meeting on April 22nd at 12:30pm in KCBE 126 for Demystifying a Career in Sports Marketing. RSVP here if you’re interested and we hope to see you there!
